RELEASE: DISCOVERY CHANNEL SERVES UP GLOBAL MULTIPLATFORM EXPERIENCE & CONTENT AS FANS COUNT DOWN TO ‘SKYSCRAPER LIVE WITH NIK WALLENDA’

On November 2, Nik Wallenda, “The King of the Highwire,” is heading to the “Windy City” of Chicago to perform his most challenging tightrope walk yet.  The event titled SKYSCRAPER LIVE WITH NIK WALLENDA will air live around the world in more than 220 countries beginning at 7 PM ET/4 PM PT, Sunday, November 2, on the Discovery Channel.  For the first of a two-part walk, Nik will cross more than two city blocks uphill at a 15-degree angle – approximately 8 stories – making it the steepest walk he’s ever attempted and the highest skyscraper crossing in the history of the famed Wallenda family. And for the second part of the tightrope crossing, Nik will be blindfolded.

To bring audience members around the world closer to Wallenda and the Windy City, Discovery has launched SkyscraperLive.com, a global digital destination available in 60 countries and 14 languages, taking viewers to the edge of all of the heart-pounding excitement. The site and its multiplatform experience were conceived and built by the Discovery Channel team responsible for the SKYWIRE LIVE experience, which won an Interactive Emmy® for Multiplatform Storytelling earlier this year.

 

Beginning at 6 PM ET/3 PM PT on Sunday, November 2, viewers can access Wired In, the live, digital multiplatform experience hosted by Chris Jacobs, at SkyscraperLive.com. Jacobs will bring viewers behind-the-scenes updates live from Chicago, with his eyes and ears on the global social sphere anticipating and watching Wallenda’s epic walk. A real-time EKG of Twitter activity mapping the global conversation around the walk will also be available online. In addition, Discovery will activate three Vine photojournalists – eye “Twitnesses” – for a Twitter takeover of @SkyscraperLive, covering the event on the ground in Chicago.

While on the site, thrill-seekers can Take the Walk with a 360-degree virtual walk featuring dizzying views of Wallenda’s wire experience, complete with an audio tour from Wallenda. Finally, fans can explore a cutting-edge 3D interactive in which they’ll spin around the buildings in an incredible, guided aerial tour of downtown Chicago.
